Wow, what a show! Congratulations Move Momentum and guest dancers!
Move Momentum’s Summer Show on Saturday 17 June, was absolutely amazing!
Move Momentum’s Over 65s’ GEMS, Stanmore Academy’s 11-16 year-olds, and our wheelchair-based Liberate Adults took to the floor with guest performers from Winchester’s Florian School of Dance and Blue Apple Theatre, the dance, singing and film learning experience for disabled performers.
Stanmore Academy’s routine to Crew 7’s Eye of the Tiger, followed by GEMS dancing to Rusted Root’s Send Me on My Way got the show off to a flying start. The Florian Dance Company danced to a medley from the film Hercules, before Blue Apple treated us to a beautiful routine set to Tracey Chattaway’s Together/Your Hand in mine.
Liberate’s Lion by Saint Mesa, and Blue Apple’s We Go Together from Grease set everybody’s feet tapping (and hands clapping), and there were some poignant and evocative dances from Florian.
And our Liberate Online class were also able to take part, with a video screening of a special routine to Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi, accompanied in real-time by some of the class participants in the theatre.
GEMS’ final dance was set to a poem, Seasonal Treasures, by former GEMS dancer, Sue Ellis. Sadly, Sue died earlier this year, and so it was a particularly moving experience for the dancers, and everyone in the theatre. GEMS dancer, Adelle, says,
“It’s been incredibly exciting to be part of the show. Everyone has enjoyed practising, and it’s been wonderful to perform to Sue’s poem – very emotional, but a very fine tribute to Sue.”
Liberate dancer, Hannah, was delighted to be part of the show.
“Dancing with Liberate is time for just being me,” she explains, “and it’s been great fun to rehearse and then get to perform our routines – to show off what we can do after the months of hard work. It’s a real buzz, dancing for the audience, with all my friends!”
And a final word from Move Momentum dance teacher, Kerry:
“I’ve had an amazing time. I’m so proud of the Stanmore Academy, and what they’ve achieved today. It’s wonderful to see how dance has boosted their confidence – in the studio during our Wednesday sessions, and here, in the theatre at Winchester University.
“But it’s been great to get everyone together from the various Move Momentum classes, the Florian School of Dance, and Blue Apple. It really was a fabulous show – so thank you to everyone.”
