What we got up to during lockdown!
Now that the new term has started and we’re back in the studio (hooray!), we thought it would be a great time to reflect on what we did during the lockdown, so here is our top-ten list of things we did in lockdown:
- We’ll start things off with something very exciting which is that in April, we became a registered charity! This means that we’ll be able to carry on providing inclusive, accessible and affordable dance classes for everyone.
- Like lots of people, we started offering classes via Zoom, Facebook Live, Instagram Live, YouTube and TikTok. Thanks to this, we got to meet even more of you through Liberate and GEMS.
- We were lucky enough to partner up with Fluid Motion Theatre Company in July on the 1 in 10 Project. With the help of one of Fluid Motion’s wonderful professional artists, Natalie, we were able to host a one-hour online workshop for our young people to discuss mental health and explore ways to express their emotions in creative ways. You can read more about that here.
- We got to provide some really exciting workshops to YMCA Basingstoke, Winchester Young Carers and Winchester Street Reach! We had so much fun dancing with you all!
- Our summer show! All of our fantastic dancers sent us clips of them performing the choreography, so even though we couldn’t be together in person, we still managed to put on a virtual show. If you missed it or you want to relive it, you can watch the video here.
- Time for a big drum roll, please… We won an award for Dance Class of the Year in the South England Prestige Awards! You can read more about the award in this blog post.
- We gained some new volunteers! We are so thrilled to introduce Lizzie, Dani, Anna, Katie and Natasha – you can click here to find out a bit more about them.
- Move Momentum was one of 71 organisations across England to be awarded a grant of up to £10,000 by the Community Business Trade Up programme. This means that our Project Manager, Amanda, a nine-month learning programme at the School for Social Entrepreneurs. We’re so proud of Amanda and can’t wait to see what will come next for Move Momentum! If you want to find out a bit more about this, you can check this out.
- We successfully secured funding for restarting our classes this month from Energise Me and Sport England, which means we get to see your lovely smiley faces in person!
- Last but certainly not least, we welcomed Kerry to Move Momentum! Kerry is our new Project Co-ordinator on the development and delivery of our new Care Home Programme. We couldn’t be more excited to have her on board – if you’d like to find out a bit more about Kerry, click here.
We couldn’t resist throwing one more little thing in… Liberate Dance celebrated their first birthday earlier this month! We’re so glad to see so many of you every week for classes and can’t wait to spend lots more years dancing with you.
We can’t wait to find out what this term has in store for us! If you want to find out any more about what we have coming up, don’t hesitate to get in contact, we’d love to hear from you.
