Disability Dance

We believe in freedom of movement for all.

Liberate in Winchester

Liberate Dance is an exclusively wheelchair-based dance group. We believe in celebrating the freedom of movement a wheelchair brings to people with disabilities.

Our studio classes take place weekly during school term time and are held at Unit 12, Winchester, SO23 0LD. They are relaxed, fun classes with a class for youth, young adults and adults. Classes focus on 1-2 choreographed dances per term covering a range of dance styles including contemporary, musical theatre, ballet, street dance and commercial. We are inclusive, adaptable and flexible to meet your needs. We are far more than a dance class, we are a support network and family.

And if taking part in shows and events is your thing – that’s great, as we regularly do performances! Take a look at some of our recent performances and events in our news section for inspiration.

    • Youth (ages 7-13) – Saturdays 12.30-1.30pm
    • Young Adult (ages 14-21) – Saturdays 2-3pm
    • Adult (ages 21+) – Saturdays 3.30-4.30pm

“Liberate Dance has changed so much about how I think of myself. I have always struggled with my anxiety and knowing where I ‘fit in;’ but being part of Liberate Dance has meant that I do not feel like that anymore!” – Lizzie, Liberate Dance student

SEN School Workshops & Classes

We are specialists in delivering dance classes and workshops for young people with disabilities, providing fun experiences that will be hard to forget.

All our sessions can be tailored to suit a variety of disabilities, including:

    • Physical disabilities
    • Learning disabilities
    • PMLD students

We lead the sessions tailored to the participant’s pace, making sure that everyone feels comfortable and supported. Sessions can be delivered either from a wheelchair or standing, or a mixture of both. Sessions can incorporate the use of props and will use fun, popular music to engage the students providing various adaptations to suit different abilities and make sure that everyone who attends can take part and enjoy themselves. Sessions can include the learning of choreography or can be a sensory movement to music class, or anywhere in between depending on the needs of the students.

We can teach a variety of dance styles, including contemporary, street dance, and musical theatre and can also incorporate any learning themes that the students are focussing on that term. We can provide sessions that run weekly, monthly, termly or as a one-off workshop, whichever suits your school best.
